Design & Technology
DT is taught to pupils as a discreet subject in Years 6, 7 & 8. In Design and Technology at Maiden Beech, pupils are given the opportunity use their creativity and imagination to design and make a variety of products. They are encouraged to draw on a range of skills to ensure they produce a quality product that fits the given brief. High expectations are a key feature of the DT department and the pupils are surrounded by examples of excellent work as well as being challenged with competitions.

Intro into DT!
|Autumn||Resistant Materials - Block-Bot!|
Design Brief: To design and make a Robot from blocks of wood. You will learn about health and safety hazards and precuations using hand tools and machinery such as the pillar drill and disc sander when constructing your Block-Bot.
|Autumn||Food + Nutrition|
Design Brief: To make a selection of different food dishes both sweet and savoury and learn about food health and hygiene, seasonal foods, how to have a balanced diet using the eatwell guide as well as focusing on literacy and numeracy skills, putting them into context.
|Spring||Systems and Control / Engineering - Dragster Project|
Design Brief: In groups you will be designing a logo for your dragster and a team name. You will be working together as a team to make the chassis, attach the wheels and pulley system, solder the motor and components to make the circuit, vacuum form a shell and design it with your groups choice of graphics. You will then race your Dragsters against other teams in your class and year group in a race day at the end of the project.

Design Brief: To make a emoji themed door hanger with packaging and learn about different forms of advertisement. Health and safety using hand tools and machinery such as the pillar drill and disc sander.

Design Brief: To design and make a tea-light holder, which will be used as a table decoration for Christmas.

Design Brief: To Design and Make a clock face to suit a room in your home. Extension: To make a clock face inspired by a particular subject to use in classrooms at school.
|Spring||Textiles - Door stop project|
Design Brief: To design and make an animal inspired door stop from fabric. Focusing on dying fabrics, using a sewing machine to stitch a seam, attaching fabric together by appliqué and using different types of stitches by hand.

Design Brief: To design and make a Automata toy for a child, operated with a CAM mechanism.

Design Brief: To design your own cafe looking at different elements of a business and cooking a range of different food dishes from your menu.

Design Brief: The aim of this project is to learn about a wide range of different Design and Technology aspects that are important within the subject.

Design Brief: To design and make a bird box constructed using a dovetail joint and decorated so that will blend in with its natural surroundings.
